Melissa joined the Mashup team in 2023 with three decades of combined experience in retail/sales, communications, government relations, crisis, disaster and emergency management, facilitation and entrepreneurship. Still working a corporate 9-5, in addition to being a full-time entrepreneur, Melissa has excelled at productivity, time management and working in flow. In the last two years, Melissa has shifted her business to her zone of genius to business growth strategy, coaching, mentoring, and training new or female entrepreneurs in the online and digital space to focus on the right things and take action.
Her passion and expertise lie in the art of niching down, visibility, productivity, automation and strategy. Melissa loves to dive deep into insights and analytics to uncover your business’s real story to know where your focus and attention should go so you can earn money without the long hours and guilt that often come with new business ventures.
Originally from the Annapolis Valley, NS, Melissa now works, lives, and plays on Treaty 6 land in Leduc, Alberta, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples, including the Cree, Blackfoot, Metis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Saulteaux, and Inuit. With a Certificate in Human Services and Diploma in Addictions Counselling from Nova Scotia Community College, combined with a BA in Psychology; Community Studies from Cape Breton University, a Diploma in Social Work from Loyalist College and an MA in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University, it’s evident she’s a life long learner and loves to serve people.
Melissa has had the joy of working with individuals of all abilities throughout her career and has been a guest and trusted ally alongside many Indigenous communities across the country. She has experience working with all levels of government, non-profit, and charitable organizations, and is familiar with obtaining funding (grants, donations, or other), public relations and marketing. Never standing down from a new adventure or a challenge, she is always looking to grow and learn.
