Mashup Lab is a for-more-than-profit company that is focused on unleashing rural potential by helping entrepreneurs grow themselves, their businesses, and their communities. We currently do this in 3 ways; through our signature Virtual Business Incubator (aka the Mashup Lab Dream Business program), running customized events and workshops, and creating rural co-working spaces.
Since 2014 Mashup Lab has been delivering our virtual offerings across the entire Province of Nova Scotia. We are now at an exciting juncture in our growth and expansion; in just the past 12 months we have successfully launched the Mashup Lab Dream Business program to Western Canada and the United States, co-designed an Indigenous Youth Entrepreneurship program with Unama’ki College, and have delivered programming in both official languages. We’ve now worked with 3000+ aspiring entrepreneurs in dozens of rural regions throughout Canada and the US, with plans to accelerate our growth here at home in rural Atlantic Canada as well as in several other Provinces and States in 2022.
We are inviting the right person to join us on the rise of this opportunity as we scale our programs and services across rural North America, adding creative capacity to the Mashup Lab Team as our Lead Storyteller; designing, creating, and distributing the inspirational stories, our unique perspective, and meaningful content we want to share with the world.
Our Lead Storyteller will manage our social media and content management efforts, working with our team to design, create, and distribute all of the stories we want to share. By capturing antidotes and stories through the work we do, this role will help us celebrate and tell the stories of our relationships and the success of the people we work with and share the impact we’re having in rural communities. They’ll helping us raise awareness of Mashup Lab and our offerings in rural communities, driving traffic to our website and supporting our business development efforts.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are a small but mighty team, so finding someone that wants to be a part of helping us do purposeful, impactful work – and loves having some fun while we’re doing it – is what is most important for us. We understand the importance that ALL forms of entrepreneurship have on unleashing the potential of a rural community, so we’re looking for someone that gets just as excited to share the story of someone starting a business that makes an extra $5000 a year to do something special for their family as to tell the story of an entrepreneur that we’ve worked with that sold their company for north of $300-million USD…and everything in between!
Just as our programs are able to be delivered virtually from anywhere, we can operate 100% remotely as a team as well, so this is a great opportunity for someone that values a lot of flexibility and independence in designing what their work day looks like. An average work week is 40-hours per week, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more, depending on what needs to get done; we don’t ‘punch the clock’. We work together as a team to get stuff done.
A degree, diploma, certificate, and/or training in Marketing, Business, Social Media, Journalism would be great. However, formal training or certifications aren’t necessarily required; our Lead Storyteller’s demonstrated creative ability to craft, customize, design and distribute meaningful, valuable content across various social channels and mediums for our target audiences is what would be most important in this role.
The ability to leverage their experience and talents to elevate our key brand message and our experiences to economic developers that position Mashup Lab as a leader in this rural economic development space is key. They will assist in getting the attention of our key partners and customers online, engaging those audiences through compelling storytelling, with the goal to optimize our lead capture campaigns and drive traffic to our website to book a call with our business development team.
Some other areas you would manage are:
- Work with the team to develop content for the Mashup Lab blog, including design and publishing of this content in various form.
- Design, create, and distribute content (i.e videos, reels, etc.) for social channels
- Use creative thinking and digital know-how to craft compelling, sharable content
- Work collaboratively with the team to launch social media campaigns that will build brand awareness and increase market share
- Build social relationships with online influencers, vendors and potential / existing customers
- Undertake regular reporting of social media performance and analytics, leveraging analysis to improve our storytelling efforts over time
Experience working in business, content development, social media management, content distribution, and an understanding of the issues facing rural economic developers, rural eco-system builders, and rural entrepreneurs would allow the right person to thrive in role.
Terms: Permanent; ability to work 100% remotely OR from our co-working spaces.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Based on Experience, with potential to participate in profit-sharing
